This is a good documentary on international official corruption. The documentary focuses on a deal between British Aerospace (BAE) and bribes paid to members of the Saudi Royal family as a part of a contract to supply arms to Saudi Arabia.

As one of the most racially diverse nations in the world, Brazil has long considered itself a colorblind “racial democracy.” But deep disparities in income, education and employment between lighter and darker-skinned Brazilians have prompted a civil rights movement advocating equal treatment of Afro-Brazilians. In Brazil, the last country in the Western Hemisphere to abolish slavery, blacks today make up almost half of the total population — but nearly two-thirds of the nation’s poor. Institutions of higher education have typically been monopolized by Brazil’s wealthy and light-skinned elite, and illiteracy among black Brazilians is twice as high as among whites. Now, affirmative action programs are changing the rules of the game, with many colleges and universities reserving 20% of spots for Afro-Brazilians. But with national surveys identifying over 130 different categories of skin color, including “cinnamon,” “coffee with milk,” and “toasted,” who will be considered “black enough” to qualify for the new racial quotas?

This is a video of a protest in England
after the Danish cartoon of Mohamed were published. My purpose in
posting it here is not to show angry radicals chanting death to
everyone they can think of. You can see that any time you want on
some cable channel. Instead watch the British policemen on the
edges of the protest. Despite all the hatred being hurled their
way, they are professional and do not react. This shows such a
contrast between the tolerance of a free and democratic country and
those who insist that everyone must be like them or die!

An SPE is a separate legal entity created for a specific function. It can be in the form of a partnership, trust, LLC or even a corporation. It cannot be significantly owned by the sponsoring corporation, or it will be reported on the company books, so it is normally owned at least 97% by outside investors. There are many uses for SPEs. Asset backed securities are one. Here is a video, which might help explain.

WIDE ANGLE was created in 2001 as a
response to the lack of in-depth international news coverage in the
United States. Five years later, WIDE ANGLE is the only program
exclusively dedicated to international current affairs
documentaries. For each broadcast, producers and journalists from
around the globe report on an event, issue or trend through the eyes
of the people who are living it day to day. In its first five
seasons, WIDE ANGLE traveled to more than 50 countries to explore
the forces that are shaping the world today, presenting global
stories on a human scale and offering Americans uncommon and
invaluable insight into today's interconnected world.
